When the idea of writing a “Maharashtra Monsoon Trek” blog first popped into my head, my plan was to write the best “SEO” optimised blog, the way I do for most of my days at work. But something just didn’t sit well with me, and also the dialogue from Zindagi na Milegi Dobara played on loop as I was editing that article.
“Aap apne liye kuch likhte ho?”
So, here’s what monsoon treks in Maharashtra mean to me, and why everyone should experience this at least once in their lifetime. Stay till the end to know about top picks for monsoon treks near Mumbai, safety tips, and things you need to have in your backpack!
When I did my first solo trek, I was a complete newbie. I was given the golden advice from my friend to start walking 2-3 hours every day at least 15 to 20 days before the D-day. This did make my trek much easier! 😌

On the day of the trek, even if you feel like backing out (yes, I felt it too!), once you reach the starting point, you will forget all about your exhaustion and workload right as the journey begins. And honestly, once the trek begins, even though it doesn’t seem much, the surroundings change you, a bit by bit.
Walking through the green shrubs and bushes, climbing a few rocks, seeing the water running down through streams and narrow passages, does remind you that there is much more to life than just working at your desk job. ☺️
Yes, you will feel exhausted. Yes, you will feel tired. For me, the physical exhaustion definitely made way for mental clarity.
What’s right, what’s wrong for me?
Where do I go from here? 😕
Oh yes, the rest of the group is headed that way!
And what do I want to do in life?
Wow, this view is amazing! Let’s take more photos and videos. 📸
Also, need to take photos of the doggo who’s been trekking with me too!
Even though I was unaware, the doggo and the mountains knew how much I needed this. ♥️
But if you are under a lot of stress, I would not recommend doing a big trek. It requires you to be alert, on your feet, and aware of your surroundings at all times.
Maybe start with something small, just as Monsoon is stepping in? A nature trail around your city. Vagabond Experiences does amazing curation of such activities around Mumbai.
Whatever you choose to do, a change of pace, change of surroundings, especially during monsoons in Maharashtra, has the potential of healing your heart and mind. So, if you can please do at least 1 trek, start toh karo yaarrr!

And as promised, here’s a list of easy treks that you can check out, and tips can help you ease into the experience. 🥾🎒🥪

Even though these are easy treks that are suitable for beginners, it is advisable to travel with groups or trek organizers. The weather and terrains do change pretty quickly, and you don’t want to get stranded or lost in the Sahyadris in the Monsoon.

To make your trek safe and enjoyable, don’t forget to pack these essentials:

Safety Tips for Monsoon Treks
- Start early to avoid afternoon fog or heavy rain.
- Avoid solo trekking unless you’re experienced. Consider tagging along with trekking groups.
- Stick to the trail – monsoon paths can be slippery and overgrown.
- Check local weather and trek conditions beforehand.
- Respect nature — don’t litter and avoid plastic.
Finally,
With all the stress eating and near-zero physical activity, I don’t think I will be doing any treks before November this year, but I think you should do a trek this monsoon!!!
And if you can, please do a solo trek too. Travelling and trekking with friends is fun, but when you travel alone, you discover who you are without anyone else’s input or your perception of who you are supposed to be. You get to be who you wish to be.
Most Monsoon treks start early morning with pick-ups beginning around 4 am or 5 am, so if you are a late riser, please respect that and wake up on time!
That’s all from my end. Until next time, adios!
